Shamren Fletcher opened the meeting and welcomed everyone. A motion was made to waive reading the minutes from the March meeting. The motion was seconded. The motion passed. Everyone was reminded to be sure to sign in. This will also enter you in the drawing for the flowers donated by Penny Lane. You must be present to win. Everyone was encouraged to pick up a flier concerning donations to the Arts Excel Program. Shamren introduced Jodi Marlow, the PTA Contact for Arts Excel. The meeting was turned over to Mr. Meerdter.

Mr. Gil Meerdter:

Mr. Meerdter explained that there would be two sessions tonight to give everyone a chance to visit two different performers for the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra. This would give everyone a first hand look at how informative and valuable this program is. At this time, Mr. Meerdter introduced Sara Angerer.

Sara Angerer:

Sara informed everyone that Cedarmere has been involved in this program for the last eight years. The Arts Excel Program uses music and art to teach core curriculum subjects. The kids also go to the Myerhoff several times to see educational concerts. At this time everyone broke off into groups to go the various performers.

Helen McShane (Teacher Rep):

She wanted to thank the PTA for everything they are doing for the school, by attending all the overcrowding meetings and trying to help fight to get the various bills passed.

Shamren Fletcher (President):

Shamren announced that the National PTA Convention would be coming up around June 21st in Anaheim, California. We would like to send one board member and one teacher as representation from Cedarmere. A note will be sent out to all the teachers. Mary Cialella-Smith has put her name in to go for the board. Sam’s Club will donate $500, if we do a program for Earth Day. Earth Day is April 22nd. Baseball Day is coming up soon on May 8th. The Common Threads fundraiser is currently running. The floor was opened up for questions and concerns. A Ton of Fun is looking for teenagers to help man the games for Cedar Day. They will pay $12 per hour. Teacher Appreciation Week is coming up. Any ideas are welcome, we want this to be really special. Stewart Richardson said that Cedarmere had a very good representation at the last meeting. Amie Bell feels that we should probably start attending the Board of Education meetings. Details regarding the First Day Celebration should be coming out in May. We were hoping to put together a bag for each parent, filled with donations from local businesses. Possibly, the Arts Excel performers could be there for the First Day Celebration. Next year we will begin Market Day to benefit the Arts Excel program. Next year, we would like to move the PTA meetings to the second Thursday of the month. Shamren has been nominated for vice president for the Northwest area. Those meeting occur the first Thursday of the month. A motion was made to change the meetings to the second Thursday of the month by Jodi Marlow. The motion was seconded. The motion passed.

Michael Goldsmith (Treasurer):

Michael encouraged everyone to buy fruit since this is our last sale for this school year. Cedar Day is not considered a fundraiser. It is meant to be an enjoyable day for the parents and kids.

Barbara Roman (Innisbrook Fundraiser):

Barbara presented a $307.01 check to Michael for the online orders from the Innisbrook Fundraiser. With this check, we just about made our 2003/2004 budget for Innisbrook.
