Cedarmere PTA Minutes

December 13, 1999

Meeting held at Cedarmere Elementary at 6:00 p.m.

Call to Order: The meeting was called to order at 6:05 p.m.

President's Remarks: I would like to thank everyone for coming out this evening for the meeting. Also, thanks to everyone for pitching in and helping out with the activities that we have had so far. Things are going great -- membership is up for the year.

Playground Equipment: The county did a site evaluation and we were given a pre-selected set of equipment to choose from. We have given the county our preferences.
The current equipment upgrade schedule is as follows:

The equipment that we are going to put in would be additional equipment for the 5 - 12 age group. The county will not replace this equipment. The cost for the equipment is ~$10,000. If we will put up $6,000 for school improvements, the county will give us $10,000 to use for the playground.

Motion

A motion was made by Barney to allow the expenditure of $6,000 for school improvements to receive the $10,000 from the county.

Discussion

It is recommended that we use our $6,000 toward getting an illuminated sign for the front of the school. The county has a lot of rules about what the sign can look like and how it must be constructed. The sign would allow for changeable messages and would be somewhat vandal proof.

The playground equipment will take 8 - 10 weeks to come in. We may be able to get the playground completed before school is out. Rich has a copy of the plan for those who would like to see it.

Vote

The motion was passed unanimously.

Town Meeting: The town meeting will be rescheduled for January. We need to get all of the activities for the rest of the year lined up. Still need to focus on getting the parents of the Kindergarten - 2nd grade students more actively involved.

Directory: The directory was sent out for reproduction 2 weeks ago. It should be back shortly for distribution.

Cafeteria Behavior: Some concerns were raised about the how the behavior policy is being administered in the cafeteria. The teachers seem to be pleased with how the policy is being handled (for the most part ).

Principal's Comments: I would like to thank Rich and everyone on the PTA board for their hard work on the playground and the events this year.

Meeting Adjourned: The meeting adjourned at 6:30 P.M.
