PTA Executive Board Meeting Minutes

5/31/2000

Meeting held at Cedarmere Elementary at 7:45 a.m.

Call to Order: The meeting was called to order at 8:10 a.m.

President's Remarks: I just wanted to get together to start some preliminary planning for next year and to work on filling in the remaining PTA board positions. The remaining positions for which candidates have been identified for are:

There was unanimous support from the executive board for these candidates, and no discussion.

* Post meeting note: These candidates were identified following the meeting. PTA officers were contacted by phone for their support. These candidates were accepted unanimously.

Positions that were not filled included the Reisterstown Festival (need to decide quickly if we are going to have a table) and Cedar Day. Rich would like to have Cedar Day split into three parts - Food, Games and Crafts. This would allow three people to co-chair the event and put less burden on one person.

The PTA needs to focus on having parents of children in the lower grades get involved. A suggestion was raised to have a social event just for the kindergarten and first grade where the PTA could talk individually to parents and get their support.

Playground: The playground is almost completed. We may add a picnic table if the cost is not prohibitive. We will try to get a ribbon cutting scheduled for the last week of school.

PTA Focus: We were very successful this year increasing membership and with the social and fund raising events. Rich would like the PTA to start to have more of an impact on the teaching programs and curriculum at the school. He would like the PTA to consider bringing in programs for the teachers to help facilitate communications between parents and teachers. He would also like the PTA to provide more input to the school on the programs available at the school (GT, ..etc). Barney brought up Action Research and attempting to introduce it at the school as a way to facilitate the teachers working more closely together.

Meeting Adjourned: The meeting adjourned at 8:35 am.
